OLCV PORTLAND ENVIRONMENTAL VOTER GUIDE

Writer's picture: enderineastportlanenderineastportlan

With the increased interest from voters and candidates, and limited organizational capacity, OLCV has offered a chance for local candidates running in races where OLCV was NOT able to make an official endorsement decision, to share their environmental priorities through a short voter guide. The candidates listed below and their answers do not indicate an OLCV endorsement, but simply provide voters with local candidates’ answers to these three questions:

  1. What are you top two environmental priorities, and what steps do you plan to take to address them?

  2. What does 'environmental justice' mean to you? And how will your understanding of environmental justice impact your priorities if elected?

  3. As a Portland City Councilor, will you ensure the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) remains climate-focused in line with what voters intended?

If you are a local candidate who would like to participate in OLCV’s voter guide, please email olcv@olcv.org

These candidates have NOT been officially endorsed by OLCV, but we hope you find their responses below helpful as you decide who to vote for

Timur Ender, District 1 City Council

  1. My first priority relates to making it easier to utilize multimodal transportation by advocating for investments that support walking, biking, and transit. These include street lighting, transit signal priority, street trees, protected bike lanes, and sidewalk infill. My second priority involves expanding East Portland’s tree canopy. We must get local government aligned around this goal. We have seen how urban heat island effect can lead to higher mortality rates in East Portland.

  2. Environmental justice means that those who have been harmed by environmental harm are centered in the decision making to advance a future that meets our community needs. Environmental justice necessitates an intersectional lens taking into account race, income, disability, and other factors. Some residents are more burdened than others by a lack of tree canopy, park deficiencies, pollution, and lack of sidewalks. I intend to work toward creating outcomes where zip code doesn’t define health. I intend to be a strong supporter of PCEF.

  3. Yes
